Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ in a cowboy hat and Greek attire looks at a scroll ("Arts Bill--Painting Sculpture Architecture Literature Music Drama") and smiles. Other scrolls ("America the Beautiful") are under his arm. Washington D.C. landmarks are in the background. Caption reads: "Age of Pericles?". Artist signature lower left: "Burck 1965 Chicago Sun Times."

Historical NoteAs a part of the Great Society programs, Lyndon Johnson signed the National Foundation for the Arts and Humanities Act on September 29, 1965, which founded the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
