Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Lady Bird sits beside LBJ's hospital bed while he reads messages ('Get well soon" "Speedy recovery". On the table are flowers with a card ("Highway Beautification Bill Regards U.S. House"). Caption reads: "You See, They Do Care". Artist signature lower left: "Burck." "1965, Chicago Sun-Times".

Historical Note
On October 8, 1965, President Johnson underwent gallbladder surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital. The Highway Beautification Act of 1965 was an effort led by Lady Bird Johnson to limit billboards and remove junk yards along highways. It was signed by Lyndon Johnson on October 22, 1965.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
