Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A large tree is surrounded by bulldozers, police, and workers. One worker has a chainsaw. A row of houses are behind the tree. Women and children carrying signs ("Preserve Our Heritage", "Save Our Trees", "Keep America Beautiful", “Save Trees”) sit in the tree branches. Artist signature lower right: "Robt. Day”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: “To Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson with gratitude for her efforts to preserve and restore America's beauty. Robt Day July 21, 1967”.
Historical NotePresident Johnson signed laws protecting the environment, including urban environments. Lady Bird was also very involved in beautification such as the Highway Beautification Act and the Beautification Project.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
