Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ looks at a battered man ("Administration's Highway Beautification Bill") as a group of men ("Motels, Truckers, Billboard Interests, Junk Yards, Gasoline Industry, Etc Etc") with clubs and weapons walk away. Caption reads: "What Happened to You?". Artist signature lower right: "Dowling". Additional text at lower center: "1965, Publishers Newspaper Syndicate".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "Syndicate 3 3/4" wide". Handwritten at lower right: "115[circled]" "140[circled]".
Historical NoteThe Highway Beautification Act of 1965 was an effort led by Lady Bird Johnson to limit billboards and remove junk yards along highways. It was signed by Lyndon Johnson on October 22, 1965.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
