Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A giant hand ("Nature") coming out of the clouds, reaches down with a paint brush to paint the trees with "fall colors". An angry bird with Lady Bird's head ("Lady Bird Johnson") flies down and looks at a billboard ("Drink Sudsy's Beer") that is blocking the trees. Caption reads: "Autumn's Masterpiece". Artist signature lower right: "Hungerford".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "To Mrs. Lyndon Johnson from Cy Hungerford - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette".
Historical NoteThe Highway Beautification Act of 1965 was an effort led by Lady Bird Johnson to limit billboards and remove junk yards along highways. It was signed by Lyndon Johnson on October 22, 1965.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
