Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ peeks around a fence while he holds behind his back a bouquet of flowers ("To Lady Bird The 'Keep America Beautiful' Bill") that a strange creature ("Billboard and Junkyard Lobby") has been eating unnoticed. Lady Bird in the background, holding gardening tools, approaches. Caption reads: "I Just Can't Wait to See Lady Bird's Face When I Hand Her These!". A small penguin at the lower center sees the creature and says, "Neither can I!" Artist signature lower left: "Oliphant © 1965 The Denver Post ". Also printed at the top left: "1965 The Los Angelese Times Syndicate".

Historical NoteThe Highway Beautification Act of 1965 was an effort led by Lady Bird Johnson to limit billboards and remove junk yards along highways. It was signed by Lyndon Johnson on October 22, 1965.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
