Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ talks to a citizen as they view a river ("our polluted water and air resources") with trash and sewage dumped into it. Factories in the background emit smoke. LBJ holds paper ("Population increase between now and 2000 A.D. will be more than the present world population") behind his back. Caption: “Sorta Makes Ya Think...Doesn't It?”. Artist signature lower left: "Poinier". Also printed lower right: “Detroit News ‘66”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: ​​"To President Johnson with every good wish Arthur Poinier". Handwritten at lower right: “‘67”.
Historical NotePresident Johnson signed several laws protecting air and water quality such as the 1963 Clean Air Act and the 1965 Water Quality Act that set standards for environmental quality and provided funding for pollution research.
