Historical NoteLady Bird Johnson began the Beautification Project to improve urban areas through clean air, clean water, clean roads, waste disposal, and preservation of landmarks and nature reserves. Lyndon Johnson’s ability to persuade and push people into doing what he wanted was referred to as the Johnson Treatment.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
