Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A bird with the face of Lady Bird sits in a nest and looks disgustedly as another bird with the face of a man (“Hartke”) pulls a worm ("Highway Beautification Funds") away from under her. Caption: “Loony Bird”. Artist signature lower right: "Sandeson".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: “​​To - President Johnson, Sorry about our Indiana Loony Bird, Chief - Bill Sandeson”.
Historical NoteThe Highway Beautification Act of 1965 was an effort led by Lady Bird Johnson to limit billboards and remove junk yards along highways. It was signed by Lyndon Johnson on October 22, 1965.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
