Physical DescriptionPhysical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Lady Bird and LBJ paint roses, hearts, and birds on a huge map of the United States and label it "Camelot". They hold up a palate ("Beautification-Great Society etc. Utopia Coloring."). Artist signature lower left: "Temple”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "To President and Mrs. Johnson, thank you! Keith Temple". Handwritten at lower left: “The Times-Picayune. New Orleans, Nov. 2, 1965”.
Historical NoteThe Johnson Administration submitted 87 bills to Congress, and Johnson signed 84, or 96%, arguably the most successful legislative agenda in US congressional history. The Highway Beautification Act of 1965 was an effort led by Lady Bird Johnson to limit billboards and remove junk yards along highways.
