Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ, poking his head in through a door, and a man (identifiable as Sam Rayburn) behind desk ("Speaker") give each other OK signs. Rayburn holds paper: "Rayburn says he favors the Senate version of Civil Rights...with Jury Trial Amendment!" Caption reads: "What's Good for Texas Is Good... Period...!" Artist signature lower right: "Jim Berryman Washington Star."

Historical NoteWhen this cartoon was created, Sam Rayburn was the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and then Senator Lyndon Johnson was the Senate Majority Leader. Both were from Texas.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
