Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ builds a house of cards ("Civil Rights"), and gestures and exclaims to a hand ("California Rioters") that is banging on the table. Caption reads: "Watch It!". Artist signature lower right: "De Alba."

Historical NoteThe Watts Riots took place in August 1965 in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles in response to police violence. Over the course of six days, 34 people were killed in the riots.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
