Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man ("Congress") plays fiddle music ("Civil Rights Sonata Play softly with feeling"). LBJ points to a drum ("Civil Rights Bills") and says, "Will you stop that infernal fiddlin' and start beatin' on this drum!". Artist signature lower left: "Sam Milai”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: "With every best wish to a really great man and President".
Historical NoteTo get the Civil Rights Act passed in July 1964, President Johnson needed to get the support of the Senate and break a southern filibuster.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
