Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ holds back three large men ("Poverty" "Bigotry" "Ignorance") as a man walks near a sign ("Voting Place”). Caption: “City of Hope”.
Historical NoteOn August 4, 1965, Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, which banned literacy tests and poll taxes and provided federal oversight to ensure that new voting laws weren’t discriminatory.
