LBJ uses a hatchet ("‘Fair Housing’ Bill") to chop off two sections ("1967 voluntary basis” and “1968 law applies to developments and apartments") from the tail of the dog ("1969 Law applies to all housing" “The right to rent or sell your home to whom you please”). Caption: “This Way You'll Have Time to Get Used to It”. Artist signature lower right: "Ralph Vinson”.Historical NoteThe Fair Housing Act was signed by Lyndon Johnson on April 11, 1968 that made housing discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, or national origin illegal.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
