Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. The White House is in a sea ("Rising Criticism") threatening to engulf it. On the roof, LBJ speaks to a general ("Vietnam"). Caption: “Luckily I Have Just the Quote for This Situation, 'Damn the Torpedoes--Full Speed Ahead!'”. Artist signature lower left: "Fischetti”. A small piece of paper “Publishers-Hall Syndicate” adhered to lower left.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "For President Johnson cordially , John Fischetti '68". Handwritten at lower left: “1653” “Mar 27, 1968”.
Historical NoteThe Antiwar Movement (1964-1973) emerged in response to the Vietnam War and included many activist groups such as the Students for a Democratic Society and the Yippies and used tactics such as mass demonstrations, sit-ins, teach-ins, and guerilla theater.
