Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ looks at a book (“Unabridged Dictionary”) while reading a newspaper ("William F. Buckley Jr. Column"). A small piece of paper “McNaught Syndicate, Inc.” adhered to lower left. Caption: “If He Means What I Think –”. Artist signature lower right: "Reg Manning”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: [blue] "Howdy Pres. Johnson Reg Manning 11-23-68". Handwritten at lower center: [blue] “3 col” “Mailing”. Stamped at lower center: “Feb 1 1968”.
Historical NoteConservative commentator William Buckley often used long words in his debates so those watching often looked them up in a dictionary.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
