Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ and another man stand in front of a wooden sign ("Senatorial Ranch"). LBJ, dressed as a cowboy, holds a western style saddle ("Majority Leadership"). He talks to a man wearing English riding clothes ("Chairman Butler") who holds a small English riding saddle ("Liberal Wing"). The U.S. Capitol is seen in the background. Caption reads: "You're Not Going to Ride on That Thing Around Here". Artist signature lower right: "Jim Berryman Washington Star".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across top: "3 cols - Tues - July 21 - /59"
Historical NotePaul M. Butler, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and figurehead of the liberal voting block during the 1950s, was often overruled by the team of Texans Senate Majority Leader Johnson and Speaker of the House Rayburn on legislative issues.
