Historical NoteLyndon Johnson was first elected to the Senate in 1948. During that campaign, he traveled in a helicopter to reach constituents in rural locations. At the time, many people had never seen a helicopter before. Johnson won against the incumbent Senator Coke Stevenson, who was a former governor of Texas.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
