Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ and a man ("Rayburn") stand in front of a group ("Democratic Majorities in Congress") while singing "The Eyes of Texas are upon you", but "Texas" is crossed out and the words 'The World" has been substituted. Signature lower right: "Ellinwood".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "Best regards to Senator Lyndon Johnson Tom Ellinwood". Handwritten at lower right: "Star" "414" "5 1/2 x 5 1/2" "19 3/4".
Historical NoteWhen this cartoon was created, Sam Rayburn was the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and then Senator Lyndon Johnson was the Senate Majority Leader. The “eyes of Texas” is a reference to a controversial song used at the University of Texas at Austin because at the time, Texas Democrats held leadership in both houses of Congress.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
