Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Two men ("Johnson" "Rayburn") sit at a table and play cards ("The ol' political game"). A man ("Dem. Party Chm. Butler") interrupts by pounding his fist on the table and says "I demand more action!". A donkey looks on from the background. Artist signature lower right: "Reg Manning [drawing of a cactus]". Additional text at bottom center: "McNaught Syndicate, Inc.".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper left: "Regards to Sen. Lyndon Johnson Reg Manning [drawing of a cactus] 8-12-59". Handwritten across bottom: "[circled] 1" "7-10-59 Mailing".
Historical NoteWhen this cartoon was created, Sam Rayburn was the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and Senator Lyndon Johnson was the Senate Majority Leader. Paul M. Butler, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and figurehead of the liberal voting block during the 1950s, was often overruled by the team of Texans Senate Majority Leader Johnson and Speaker of the House Rayburn on legislative issues.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
