Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ is packing a suitcase ("U.N. Space Mission), while another suitcase ("Mexico Diplomatic Mission") sits on the floor. He holds an olive branch between his teeth. A photo of the U.S. Capitol sits atop a nearby dresser. Caption reads: "New Jobs for the Peacemaker". Artist signature lower right: "Harold Maples 1958".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "11/58".
Historical NoteSenator Lyndon Johnson met with Mexican president Adolfo López Mateos in 1958 in Acapulco. In November 1958, Lyndon Johnson spoke at the United Nations to promote peaceful space exploration and international cooperation.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
