He holds an olive branch between his teeth. A photo of the U.S. Capitol sits atop a nearby dresser. Caption reads: "New Jobs for the Peacemaker". Artist signature lower right: "Harold Maples 1958".

Historical NoteSenator Lyndon Johnson met with Mexican president Adolfo López Mateos in 1958 in Acapulco. In November 1958, Lyndon Johnson spoke at the United Nations to promote peaceful space exploration and international cooperation.
