Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A caricature of LBJ rides a donkey with a telephone connected to the US Capitol in one hand and a pennant ("Demo Leader") on a pole in the other. On the ground are bottles (“Pills”). There is a helicopter flying above. Above: "We're all up in that helicopter together…".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "Merry Christmas - 1953...Jake, Ed & Windy".
Historical NoteWhen this cartoon was made, Senator Lyndon Johnson was the Senate Minority Leader. Lyndon Johnson was first elected to the Senate in 1948. During that campaign, he traveled in a helicopter to reach constituents in rural locations. At the time, many people had never seen a helicopter before.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
