Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A cleaning woman ("Congress") is neglecting work ("14 'priority' legislative measures") to look at a calendar of July with “27” circled and “Adjournment” written. In the next room, a woman (Mrs. USA) asks Eisenhower, "I wish you'd speak to her firmly! There's still lots of work to be done!". A man peeks out on the other side of the door frame into the room. Caption: “The Help Is Beginning to Think of Vacation”. Artist signature lower left: "Yardley”.

Historical NoteIn July 1955, President Eisenhower agreed to a Congress adjournment at the end of the month, although he wanted specific bills to get passed before then.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
