Historical NoteWith nuclear disarmament treaties, the United States and the Soviet Union agreed to limit production of or reduce the number of nuclear weapons. During the 1960s, the Eighteen Nation Committee on Disarmament met to discuss nuclear disarmament and resulted in the establishment of the Hot Line that allowed for direct communication between Washington DC and Moscow.
