Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A genie ("Nuclear Weapons") has come from a bottle held by a man (identifiable as Charles de Gaulle), who is drunk in a wine cellar. LBJ tiptoes down the stairs followed by another man (identifiable as Aleksey Kosygin) carrying a net. Caption: “And We Almost Had It Bottled”. Artist signature lower right: "Bob Stevens”. A small piece of paper “Copley Newspapers” adhered to lower right.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: [blue] “Thurs Jul 18”.
Historical NoteIn 1968, many nations met to discuss banning the spread of nuclear technology, resulting in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. France and China did not sign the treaty.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
