Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Frame 1: LBJ is a knight in armor standing in front of a dragon (“Federal Budget”), and he says, "I'm going to cut off the tail of the dragon!". Additional text at upper center: “January”. Frame 2: The dragon sits on top of LBJ, who is defeated. Additional text at upper left: “End of fiscal year…”. Artist signature lower right: "Jack Bender”.
Historical NoteIn 1964, Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Revenue Act, which decreased income taxes. However, that led to an increase in spending by consumers and businesses. Along with government spending from the Vietnam War and Great Society, all of this increase of demand led to inflation. LBJ was pressued to raise taxes or cut government spending.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
