Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ runs with an enormous book ("BUDGET" "Record 112 Billion Budget $569 for each man, woman and child in the U.S.") on his back A small man runs with him. Stuck within the pages of the book is a soldier, two missles, and a grenade. Caption reads: "War Is Heavy-As-Hell Too!". Artist signature lower right: "[in small sign: "Well, we know what's up!"] [artist self-portrait] Dobbins".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: "With Godspeed To - President Johnson (and with a smile from) Jim Dobbins" "The Boston Traveler 1-25-66". Handwritten across bottom: "Ed Page 102 Lines Tues p.m. Jan 25 - 66".
Historical NoteIn 1966, the United States federal government had a budget of $134.5 billion. Of this, $69.6 billion was dedicated to defense, including the Vietnam War.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
