Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ leans on a fence and holds the rope of a wildly bucking horse ("Tax Jump"). A small figure holds onto the fence and carries a sign (“It’ll only hurt in the wallet pocket area!”). Caption: “Well, Maybe He Has Grown a Little Since Last January”. Additional text at lower center: “Boston Herald-Traveler 7-8-67”. Artist signature lower right: "Dobbins”.
Inscriptions and Markings“Handwritten at lower center: To: President Johnson - natcherly, - one thing I didn't like!! (Nobody's perfect) from Jim D”. Handwritten at lower center: [red] “535”. Handwritten at lower center: [blue] “102 lines” “Sun Herald Early”. Handwritten at lower right: [strikethrough in red] “540”.
Historical NoteThe Johnson Administration submitted 87 bills to Congress, and Johnson signed 84, or 96%, arguably the most successful legislative agenda in US congressional history, leading to a lot of government spending. Raising taxes would slow down the economy and prevent inflation.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
