Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ wears a large lumpy western hat ("Federal Accounting Procedures Used to Minimize the 1967 Budget Deficit"). Caption reads: "Keeping It Under His Hat!" Artist signature lower right: "do'c Milwaukee Sentinel".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right in red: "To President Johnson, with best wishes - don o'c9/22/2022onnell"
Historical NoteIn 1967, the budget increased funding for the Vietnam War and reduced funding for the Great Society. President Johnson also discussed plans to reduce the budget deficit.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
