Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. In the White House, LBJ pulls a switch ("Master Switch") up ("Steel"). Other switches (“Alum” and “Copper”) are on the wall and a beagle sits by his feet. At the plant, a bucket ("Steel Prices") pours out hot molten metal ("$2.75 a ton increase"). Caption: “Remote Control”.
Historical NoteIn September 1965, Lyndon Johnson averted a steel strike by pressuring the United Steelworkers union under I. W. Abel and management under U.S. Steel Vice-President R. Conrad Cooper to come to an agreement of raising wages to $4.40 per hour with benefits.
