Historical NoteIn this cartoon, Lyndon Johnson uses a Democrat donkey as a cutting horse, a horse used by cowboys to separate a single cow from the rest of the herd. When planning the federal budget, Johnson removes money that wouldn't be spent anyway and keeps the rest of the spending.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
