Historical NoteOperation Head Start was a Great Society summer program begun in 1965 that served children from poor families. It provided children with medical care, meals, and access to museums and libraries. Instead of focusing on school subjects, Operation Head Start was about promoting curiosity and self-expression and providing opportunities to help children’s development.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
