Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ leans over to point his finger at an elephant ("Minority Opposition") squashed under a large book ("Federal Aid to Education"). He says, "-You're the first one to get 'Educated' under my bill!". Caption reads: "Congratulations!". Artist signature lower left: "Reg Manning [drawing of a cactus] McNaught Syndicate, Inc.".
Inscriptions and Markings"Handwritten at lower left: "Regards to a former school teacher, Lyndon B. Johnson Reg Manning [drawing of a cactus] 9-17-65". Handwritten and stamped across bottom: "3 col. Mar 29 1965 Mailing."
Historical NoteThe Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 granted funds for education, including distributing funding to schools with lower-income families, funded supplementary education centers, and provided summer education, special education, and bilingual education. It also provided $1.5 billion for public schools.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
