Historical NoteThe Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 granted funds for education, including distributing funding to schools with lower-income families, funded supplementary education centers, and provided summer education, special education, and bilingual education. It also provided $1.5 billion for public schools.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
