Historical NoteDuring the Kennedy administration, which ended a little over a week before this cartoon was made, US officials considered China to be more of a threat than the Soviet Union and continued to refuse to recognize the People’s Republic of China in favor of Taiwan.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
