Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man dressed as a football player ("Goldberg") wears a "United Nations" football uniform and a shoe ("Adlai Stevenson's shoes") with a hole in it. He kicks a bomb (bearing a hammer and sickle) with a lit fuse ("Red China's Threat"). Caption reads: "Kicking it Out". Artist signature lower right: "Hungerford".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper left: "483".
Historical NoteDuring the Johnson administration, US officials continued to refuse to recognize the People’s Republic of China in favor of Taiwan and did not allow the PRC on the UN Security Council. Adlai Stevenson was a UN ambassador and Arthur Goldberg was his successor.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
