Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Small figures ("Cambodia", "Pakistan", "Indonesia") dance around a large, ragged man (identifiable as Mao Tse-tung), who holds an empty basket ("Hunger", "Privations", "Slavery"). In the back ground, Uncle Sam stands alone with a large bundle ("Wealth", "Freedom"). Caption reads: "We Must Be Lousy Salesmen!". Artist signature lower right: "Morris."
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "To President Johnson, with sincere best wishes - John Milt Morris."
Historical NoteDuring the 1960s, China supported revolutionary groups around the world against colonial and conservative governments. In Indonesia, President Sukarno maintained strong relations with both China and the Soviet Union. Pakistan allied with China during the border disputes with India in 1962. The Khmer Rouge political party in the 1960s was supported by the Chinese Communist Party.
