Physical Description
Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ ("Pro") and another man (“De Gaulle”) ("Anti") run a race ("The Big NATO Race"). Their noses are even. Caption: “Nose and Nose”. Artist signature lower right: "Hungerford”.
Historical NoteCharles de Gaulle believed that NATO advantaged the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom over France. In 1966, he announced a withdrawal of France's military power from NATO.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
