Historical NoteThe Berlin Wall was constructed in August 1961 to separate the Soviet-occupied East Berlin from the Western-occupied West Berlin, restricting movement throughout the city. In this cartoon, the soldier does not know about the talk show host Jack Paar, demonstrating how cultural diffusion was blocked between the Western and Eastern blocs. The translation of the German sign reads: "Warning! You are now leaving West Berlin".Additional Details
