Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ leans against a wall reading a book ("Vietnam"). He speaks to a dachshund ("West Germany") barking in a friendly manner at a dog puppet ("East Germany") held over the wall by a man (identifiable as Walter Ulbrecht). Caption: “Take It Easy, Fritz”. Artist signature lower right: "Le Pelley”.

Historical NoteThe split between East and West Germany, as well as the Berlin Wall, emphasized the east-west split in Europe and the tensions of the Cold War.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
