Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man (identifiable as Charles De Gaulle) talks to another man (identifiable as Alexei Kosygin) as they walk across a brick bridge ("Under Construction US-East Europe Bridge") that crumbles underneath them. They step on LBJ, who is under the bridge laying bricks. Caption: “​​What We Need, Alexei, Is a Bridge Between East and West!”. Artist signature lower left: "L. D. Warren”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: “33 ½ picas” “Thu 8 Dec 66”.
Historical NoteIn 1966, Charles de Gaulle withdrew France from NATO because he believed that NATO advantaged the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom over France and he wanted France to have its own nuclear power and pursue detente with the Soviet Union.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
