Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man (identifiable as Harold Wilson) scratches LBJ’s back (“Backing in Vietnam”) while LBJ scratches Wilson’s back (“backing in Malaysia”). An itch ("MLF") still bothers LBJ on the upper back. Caption: “Good to See You, Harold--Mmm--Now up a Little Higher, Please!”. Artist signature lower center: "L.D. Warren”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: “33 ½ picas” “Tue 8 Dec 64”.
Historical NoteHarold Wilson, the prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1964-1970, did not offer military aid to the United States during the Vietnam War, but he did not condemn American actions. From 1963-1966, Indonesia opposed the creation of Malaysia, leading to battles in the border between the two nations. The United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations supported Malaysia.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
