Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man (identifiable as Brandt) has a dachshund ("West Germany") with two ears ("Independence of US" and "Defense Cuts") on a leash and LBJ leans over to pet it. Caption: “He Likes to Be Petted, but I'd Advise Against Picking Him up by His Ears!”. Artist signature lower center: "L.D. Warren”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: “OK” [illegible]. Handwritten at lower center: “33 ½ picas” “Thu 17 Aug 67”.
Historical NotePresident Johnson was known to lift his beagles by their ears. Willy Brandt was the Chancellor of West Germany.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
