Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ waves a victory sign to a man (identifiable as Harold Wilson), who wades in the direction of a sign ("Back 'ome") carrying a bandaged Pound sign, a man ("World Troop Commitments") and an atom ("A Nuclear Power"). A man watching says, “Keeping up with the Johnsons requires lots of L.S.D.*”. A cat stands next to him. Caption: “Chin up, Old Boy! I'm Sure You'll Make It!”. Additional text at lower left: “*Pounds, shillings, & pence”. Artist signature lower left: "Yardley”.

Historical NoteHarold Wilson, the prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1964-1970, did not offer military aid to the United States during the Vietnam War, but he did not condemn American actions.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
