Historical NoteIn March 1966, Lyndon Johnson met with Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and discussed economic development in India as well as sending aid after the Bihar famine of 1966-1967, which affected Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The famine was caused by a decrease in grain production and rise in grain prices.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
