Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ as a baseball player stands at the plate inspecting his fingernails as a baseball ("the Pakistan-Kashmir-India Dispute") whizzes over his head. Caption: “​​High and Outside”. Artist signature lower left: "Newton Pratt”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: ​​"To Mr. President with best personal regards". Handwritten at upper center: [upside down] “(High and Outside)”. Handwritten at upper left: [upside down] [blue]: “50.5” [illegible].
Historical NoteAfter the partition of India in 1947, the predominantly Muslim state of Jammu and Kashmir was made a part of India instead of Pakistan. In 1965, Pakistan invaded Kashmir to take the province and was unsuccessful. Before the war, the United States had provided both Pakistan and India with military assistance and foreign aid, but afterwards Pakistan aligned itself more with China and India developed closer relations with the Soviet Union.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
