Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. On the porch of a ranch, a man (“Ayub Khan”) sits holding the halter of a famished camel ("Pakistan") whose humps ("Kashmir Settlement") are flopped over. Next to him, a listening LBJ holds a paper ("Economic Support"). Caption: “​​When a Camel's Humps Are Flabby, He Needs Nourishment!”. Artist signature lower right: "L. D. Warren”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: “33 ½ picas” “Wed 15 Dec 65”.
Historical NoteAfter the partition of India in 1947, the predominantly Muslim state of Jammu and Kashmir was made a part of India instead of Pakistan. In 1965, Pakistan invaded Kashmir to take the province and was unsuccessful. Before the war, the United States had provided both Pakistan and India with military assistance and foreign aid, but afterwards Pakistan aligned itself more with China and India developed closer relations with the Soviet Union.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
