Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. In a bull ring, toreador LBJ speaks across the barricade to fellow bull fighters ("McNamara” and “Rusk"). The bull ("Dominican Rebels") stands in the center of the ring with banderillas stuck in its shoulders. Caption: “Would It Be Possible to End This Fight Without Killing the Bull?”. Artist signature lower right: "De Alba.".

Historical NoteIn April 1965, the Dominican Revolutionary Party installed a president in the National Palace. In response, President Johnson sent Marines to the Dominican Republic to evacuate American citizens from the country, end the civil war, and establish a conservative Reformist Party government. Robert McNamara was the Secretary of Defense and Dean Rusk was the Secretary of State.
