Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Standing on an island "Cuba", a man (identifiable as Fidel Castro) is in stand-off with cowboy LBJ, who standing near "Guantanamo". Castro guards a water spigot between them with a "U.S.S.R." machine gun in his holster. Artist signature lower right: "Dick Edney."
Historical NoteIn February 1964, the Cuban government shut off the water supply to the Guantanamo Naval Base. In response, President Johnson and Robert McNamara, the Secretary of Defense, resolved this by providing water through the importation of freshwater and desalination of saltwater.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
